FAQs

Who finances Scratch Tactile?

Scratch Tactile has been funded by the nonprofit organization Sistema THEAD, the Scratch Foundation, and Barcelona City Council. Further support has come from the Government of Catalonia, CRE ONCE Barcelona, CIM-UPC and other institutions.

Scratch Tactile has received support and assistance from many individuals and institutions and is growing. We encourage you to collaborate with the project to contribute to quality education and leave no one behind.

What age is Scratch Tactile recommended for?

Scratch Tactile is ideal for students ages 4 to 8, as well as for students with various disabilities or special educational needs. Students ages 10 and up can design new 3D models, backgrounds, and activities, and can manufacture them using digital fabrication technologies.

Scratch Tactile contains small parts that can be swallowed or inhaled, so they are not recommended for children under 3 years of age.

Can I download the designs and sell the kit?

Scratch Tactile was created by the design team of the non-profit organization THEAD System, SCCL, and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

You may use, modify, or adapt the teaching materials and designs, but you must always credit their original authorship (ScratchJrTactile.org and the THEAD System) and may not be used for commercial purposes. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Can I use the cat or the Scratch logo?

The Scratch and ScratchJr cat and logo are licensed by the Scratch Foundation, which you can view here.

You may use the 'Scratch Jr Tactile' logo to identify the resource or to distribute and reference it, but not for any use that suggests misappropriation.

Does the Scratch Tactile website meet accessibility criteria?

We are constantly working to improve the accessibility of both the website and the teaching materials, which are designed to be read with a web reader. This website was recently created, and in the coming months we will be working to improve accessibility measures. We have set this goal as a priority so that no one is left behind.

If I can't or don't want to make Scratch Tactile, can I buy it?

We encourage the entire educational community and families to make their own kit at a local makerspace or by asking hobby makers in their community for help. One of Scratch Tactile's goals is to build a community and a network of solidarity and mutual support. The items have been designed to be simple to modify and make with various technologies, so you can use the one you have most at hand. Let us know how we can best support you so you can make your own kit.

Even so, many people write to us wanting to buy the kit. If you can't make it yourself, you can buy it if you live in Catalonia; otherwise, please contact us.
