What can you do with

Scratch Tactile?

Move a character

  1. With Scratch Tactile, program a character to move around the background or stage.

  2. The flag always comes first, followed by the blue movement blocks (arrows).

The idea... why tactile?

  1. You can print out a background, ask your students to draw one, or use a blank sheet of paper and place items, obstacles, etc. in the boxes.

  2. Make it tactile. To make the background more accessible, use tangible items such as: small natural objects, small items from the classroom, modeling clay, adhesive tactile items with different textures (e.g. foam rubber, Velcro, textured adhesive tape, etc.)

Create a character

  1. You can draw a character, cut it out and place it on the character stand that comes with the kit.

  2. Choose a doll or toy that you have to hand.

  3. You can create a character with plasticine or clay using the supports.

  4. You can look for everyday or natural objects and draw a face on them.

  5. If you want to, 3D print a character from the Internet or design your own.

Encourage collaboration

  1. Have a student propose the challenge to solve or the project to create.

  2. A different student will have to do the program.

  3. And another student will read the program and execute it by moving the character.

Reflect on the inclusion of people with disabilities

  1. Scratch Tactile is a good tool for highlighting, reflecting on, learning about and normalizing the disabilities that many people have.

  2. It fosters debate on issues of accessibility, multiculturalism, and social inequalities so that students become involved with the challenges of today's society and develop a sense of solidarity, equity, and cooperation.

  3. It promotes empathy by incorporating classroom activities that allow students to experience the difficulties faced by people with disabilities and by focusing on those who need the most help.

Bring your project to the screen with ScratchJr

  1. If you have a screen, you can transfer your project to the ScratchJr application.

  2. You will need to make some adjustments such as controlling the speed and pauses (with the wait block) (computers need us to tell them everything to do).

  3. Scratch Tactile is ideal as a preliminary step to creating projects on screen and making them digital.

From 12 to 99 years old
